The Topsham Fleet is based at Topsham Sailing Club at the head of the Exe Estuary just a couple of miles from the M5 junction 30 which gives ready access from a wide area. More details at www.topsham-sc.org.uk
The Exe Estuary is tidal with extensive areas of mud and sand visible at low water however there is a deep-water channel which can be navigated with care in a dayboat at most states of the tide. At high tide the estuary provides a wide expanse of sheltered water giving ideal sailing conditions.
The Topsham Fleet numbers about 15 Devon Yawls who sail mainly within the estuary. From April until September between two and four races are held bi-weekly at high tide on weekday evenings. There are also weekend series from April until November so it can be seen there is no shortage of racing. Excursions further afield beyond Exmouth some 6 miles to the south are occasionally made. There are also a number of Devon Dayboats located at Topsham.
In addition there are both Devon Yawls and Devon Dayboats based at, Exmouth, Starcross, and Lympstone sailing clubs.
